Appearance:
Annalise's earliest memories were of fear and entrapment. She was among a group of children that resided in a sterile lab in thick glass cages wearing gowns that were too big for their small frames. She did not know what the outside world was like, and the scientists would insist that the world itself was a horrible place without beauty and full of unspoken terrors. They were told they were here to serve a great purpose, and that they should be grateful they were chosen to "ascend." If they were lucky, they'd survive, transform, and be like gods in a godless world. They were given numbers instead of names, hers being Number 5. One by one, year after year, more and more of the children disappeared only to never reappear again. There were daily blood drawings, tests on physical and mental state, etc. The scientists made sure the children were compliant through fear and manipulation. Children were easy to scare, and they spared no effort to keep them docile. The ones who fought back were beaten as an example, and unlucky for her, she chose defiance until a certain point.
Annalise remembered watching a gurney with a blood-stained blanket draped over something, and she never forgot a limp arm slipping from beneath with a tag: Number 25. The child was able to put two and two together when Number 10 left her room. They were going backwards. Every day, the number of children thinned out, until all that remained were herself and four others. The day she was supposed to "ascend", everything changed.
The first thing she heard was a series of loud, ear-shattering bangs. Annalise covered her ears, closed her eyes, and the sounds continued in muffled repetition. She heard thumping, glass shattering, alarms sounding, hissing, and zapping. At one point, something was thrown against her cage, and she bit back a scream that threatened to tear free from her tight throat. The monsters the scientists spoke of had broken in. They always warned them that if they did not behave, the monsters would come, take them away, and eat them up. Did she misbehave? She must have.
The various sounds stopped, and Annalise blinked her eyes open. The entire lab was destroyed. Ceiling panels dangled from wires, electric wiring fizzled and sparked, lights blinked and flashed, and some of the scientists lay on the ground in pools of blood. Standing amidst the chaos was a lone, masked person with something in his hands. Anna had never seen a gun before. The child pushed herself against the back of her cage, hugged her knees to her chest, and shivered with terror. Fear was an everyday sensation, but this was a new form of it.
He put those...things away, approached her cage, knelt down, and opened it. The monster was going to devour her now. She did not know how he would do it, only that she would be its meal. Instead, he asked her name, and she opened her eyes, curious as to why he would want to know that. "Number 5." As if though it were instinct, she extended her trembling arms and turned them up. The scientists always asked for their names before drawing blood. No needles came. The intruder paused for a time, but he eventually reached into the cage, gently grasped her by the waist, and took her out. Annalise did not fight him as he wrapped her up with a lab coat that hung on the wall nearby. He cradled her in his arms, and carried her out of the lab. What happened from there was surreal for her. She had never seen the world beyond the door down the hallway from her cage, and when he opened it, he took her down an equally decimated hallway towards a door with a window glowing with a golden color.
When he opened that last door, she closed her eyes and shielded her face from the glowing orb in the sky. She had never seen the sun before. In time, her eyes adjusted, and she saw the blood stained mask that Faust wore. The weary child grasped some of the clean fabric of the lab coat and she pulled it up to wipe some of it off the surface. Tugging the material already wore her out. Exercise and proper nutrition were not a way of life in that lab, and she was too weary to admire the outdoors. The child drifted off.

Years rolled by. Faust and Annalise got by with whatever they could while maintaining a nomadic life. Faust pushed Annalise to her limits, and upon reaching them, pushed her past them. Day in and day out, he ensured she knew how to defend herself and how to fight back in a world full of danger and uncertainty. In between those long hours, Faust taught Anna other important things, such as reading and writing. To say his adopted daughter was a challenge was an understatement. Annalise had no concept of self preservation at first due to limited outside world contact in the lab. It took years and perseverance but Annalise proved to be swift in her learning.
The two were rarely apart. When Annalise was able to contribute at last, Faust took her on personal missions to disable labs and hunt down any scientists he wished to eliminate. Sometimes, they were the hunted, and worked together to dispatch their pursuers. All in all, life was far from normal for them.
While in New York years ago, a deadly virus was unleashed on New Years' Day, causing a serious outbreak and swift quarantine of the city. Annalise, Alexandra, and Amelie --a woman sharing a entity within her body--managed to get out of the horde together to the safety of a rooftop in the midst of the chaos and made their way to safety. In time, Faust joined them, and Annalise and her father escaped the city before the last of the outskirts of town were closed off. Naturally, Faust refused to let this slide. He wanted to find out who was responsible and make them pay for what they did.
It took a great deal of planning, time, gathering of weaponry, and scouting before they found a potential lead. Together, they infiltrated a facility in Eagle Cap Wilderness in Oregon. Faust carved his war path, Annalise sniped the lingering survivors of his brutal attack, and he began to hack into the computers. Another arrival spurred them into preparing for another battle, but thanks to Annalise's voiced inquiries, bloodshed was temporarily halted. The newcomer, Ranka, stated it was known that the world governments knew Umbrella was responsible for the outbreak, and he was here to find out their next move. Common ground established.
Unfortunately, that peace did not last. A man with a German accent released a monstrosity armed to the teeth that sent all three booking it after an EMP disabled Ranka's arm. To say that escaping was difficult was the understatement of the century. This experiment was big, capable of withstanding a great deal of damage, and had the capacity to rip them into bloodied ribbons with its arsenal. There were numerous close calls on Annalise's part whereas the rest of her company stood a better chance to heal from more fatal injuries.
With co-op efforts, they lived to fight another day, and Ranka helped them get out of the area. After that, things weren't the same.
Faust and Annalise had numerous tense situations they escaped from. Annalise obtained her share of physical and emotional scars from the danger she faced, but this particular experiment had Faust taking a step back and considering how close she could have come to getting killed because of their pursuits. At first, Faust found small ways to keep her from accompanying him on missions, such as having her perform reconnaissance or keeping a lookout for him. Annalise went along with it at first, but time and time again, she was left out in gradual transitions. Finally, Faust decided that, after some normalcy finally returned to the world, it was time for her to have a taste of that instead of the life he had given her since she was a child. Naturally, Annalise protested. Normal was not in her dictionary because normal to her was being with her father! No matter how she fought back, Faust remained firm in his choice, which led to some resentment on Annalise's part.
This was a world she did not understand. She still did not know how to operate computers or meld in with society! He wanted to leave her in all this uncertainty while he went off? To make matters worse, new laws against B.O.W.s endangered him even more than before. Annalise had no choice at that point--she had to stay in the city and learn her way around it. Through connections via Faust, she got a van instead of a small apartment. She wasn't ready to settle into a stationary environment yet.
Try as she might, Annalise couldn't transition fully. Sure, she was able to start an education and work odd jobs wherever she could, but it did not feel fulfilling. Being the "normal" person in a prospering economy was unusual. Gritting her teeth, she continued trying and trying, ignoring the internal urge to find her father and rejoin his efforts.
She couldn't ignore it any longer. An interest sparked in her recently to help B.O.W.s but she did not know where to begin...
