March, 2015
Alice sat back in her chair behind a rusty metal desk, surrounding her were several dry erase boards with details about labs and a roughly drawn layout of the Town Square lab. There was no one around her on the second level of the warehouse offices but one man stood between all else and the stairs to the top. He had been instructed to let a single person by that she was expecting. An hour or so before she had gotten an evaluation report from Amy detailing the mission Alice sent him on, Amy had been very vague on the information gathered and instead was letting Adam deliver the report knowing that the two had a lot to discuss anyways. Alice closed her lap top and opened the drawer to the desk taking two glasses from the drawer and sat them on the top of the desk, she also grabbed a bottle of whiskey from the drawer, no label, it had long since rubbed away but the brown liquid inside glistened in the faint light of the work lamps around the area.
The radio was going still, it was still broadcasting the same message from Sears: "All Illegal bounties have been ceased until further notice, any information on William Birkin and Umbrella will be rewarded......" There was static from the HAM radio on the corner of her desk but then it came to life with screaming and yelling which died out soon after and an all clear was given, it seemed the mission into Staten wasn't going as clean as they expected. Regardless, she had faith in the team she hand selected to retrieve the black box left behind from Project N's activation, they were just going to have to sift through several of the buildings it knocked down to get to it and deal with the horde of flesh eaters Project Grace 2.0 created by collapsing the tunnel.
It was becoming a hassle to lead these people, the larger the group got, the more unruly it got. People joined with the wrong idea of freedom and justice thinking she stood for Kriegers principals, instead they were all disappointed by her in the end. Those that stayed faced long boring days of waiting for action and running recon for the people she actually trusted to complete jobs. Soon as the job into Staten popped up she had thirty volunteers and didn't choose a single one, knowing they would all die the moment they got fifty yards into Staten. These rookies were the reason she was testing old friends and leaning on broken trust and faith in those she didn't know if she could trust or not. It would be her downfall one day, but she would sooner go out a martyr than watch everyone burn.
Alice filled her glass half way and waited, reflecting on the past and what she had lost... What she had gained.
